Wednesday marks 14 years since last standard time April Fools Day

Wednesday, April 1, 2020

This Wednesday, April 1 marks 14 years since April 1, 2006, the most recent April Fools Day on which the United States was not observing daylight saving time. For example, 2006 was the last year in which New York City observed Eastern Standard Time (UTC-5) on April 1. In all sufficiently late years, specifically all years 2007 and later, New York City observed Eastern Daylight Time (UTC-4) on April 1. The future of daylight saving time for United States residents is unknown, but hopefully the final decision will be that Boston, New York City, and Washington DC will change their time zone to the Atlantic Time Zone, or, if the 1966 Uniform Time Act is repealed or modified, decide to stay on permanent daylight saving time.
